I've sometimes talked on here about belonging to a group of women who take on altruistic charitable tasks that focus primarily on women, children & literacy. Part of the mandate of the group is to do an International Project each year.
This year one of our members and her husband (he belongs to Rotary International) took on the task of helping students & women at a School for the Blind in Kathmandu Nepal. Our group here donated $$ which translated into items for the blind to use (stylus, canes, games in braille etc) purchased in India (so the $$ stretched much further that purchasing and transporting items there).
