For anyone who has not seen this series it is basically about the rise of a black country family (basically Gypsies) who become a criminal empire, a bit like a Birmingham Mafia. It is set way back in the 1920s.and is very atmospheric with some great locations. The name Peaky Blinder comes from the practice of sewing razor blades into the beck of a flat cap which could be whipped off and slashed across the face of an opponent or victim in a scuffle. The series was a BBC production it is also on Netflix and worth a look, it is based on fact and these sort of gangs certainly existed at the time, I can recall that as a young lad that the railway workers in Crewe Locomotive Works were often called Peaky Blinders.
My reason for posting this is that because of my interest in the canals and our industrial heritage I happen to know that the latest series is being produced and as I write they are filming along a stretch of the Trent & Mersey canal and using the Middleport Pottery Museum as a backdrop. You may recall that I posted an image of the Weeping Poppies on one of their bottle kilns a few weeks ago, looking forward to watching the latest series.

Re: Peaky Blinders
One of the best series on BBC and what I liked was that each series was complete on its own but successive series followed on giving continuity.

Re: Peaky Blinders
Just for you Grandad filming at the Middleport Pottery for Peaky Blinders.
The film crew vehicles located on the nearby site of an old scrap yard
The actor Paul Anderson, AKA - Arthur Shelby
The Shelby families barge 'January' moored on the Trent & Mersey canal outside the pot bank ready for filming.
They have also requisitioned two nearby streets adjacent to the Pottery Museum as filming sets because they were recently restored to be in character with the era of the factory itself.

Re: Peaky Blinders
Very interesting. I'll have to have a look tonight to see if Peaky Blinders is being shown here or not and get it onto my LIST of what to watch.
By the way I never knew that about the razor blades. Not recently but I have heard phrases referencing somebody as a Peaky Blinders but never knew the connotation.

I think my wife has a thing for Cillian Murphy who plays Tommy Shelby. Something about his eyes. :lol :
