Rise of the Right
And so it begins, some weeks back I wrote a piece about the influx of the so called refugees into Europe. It was all started by the totally un thought out proclamation by Frau Merkel “they are all welcome here” surely the most stupid statement by a politician in recent years. Since then we have seen our borders besieged by mainly economic migrants trying to storm their way into Europe, much to the detriment of the genuine refugees. At the time I expressed my fear that a right wing backlash would start to be felt by ordinary people who see their own lifestyle and cultures being swamped by this invasion. The latest election results in Germany will no doubt rattle her Christian Democrat Party as they see a very strong resurgence of the far right groups who appear to have done extremely well, especially as they were almost wiped out politically in recent years. Their strong resurgence in Germany should not be underestimated and to remember lessons from history when a similar right wing party came to power because ordinary people became disenchanted with their government. I am convinced that 2016 will see many countries in Europe including the UK where similar protests will be seen against those who would enforce this migration onto its citizens against their wishes. Even the UK’s European referendum will be greatly influenced by how the majority of people perceive that our borders are properly controlled and this will become a major issue if we see a continuation of the flood of refugees throughout the coming months.

Re: Rise of the Right
I think a lot of governments forget that they are elected BY the people to act FOR the people, and not to dictate TO the people! Perhaps it's time they listened to their constituents and not to the dictators who seem to run the EU!

Re: Rise of the Right
That is proven by the reaction of Merkel who said today that she will not change her policy on immigration, that is despite the Far right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) winning all three regional elections yesterday and taking over a quarter of the vote. Now that is a fair proportion of the electorate who do not agree with her policy, but that does not seem to bother her, she seems hell bent upon getting her own way and even saying that the rest of the EU would be called to help with the problem. Anyone who does not see that this organisation (the EU) is being run solely for the benefit of Germany must be living in a cave, they make the decisions, they call all the tunes and yet we are all asked to pay. It is they who allowed the Greeks to be allowed to join even though their economy was unstable, it is they who allowed all of the easy money that Greece had access to, and it was mainly on German arms that the Greeks spent that money. Consider this: Greece has more tanks (purchased from Germany) than the UK and France combined
that is a ridiculous figure and actively encouraged by Germany to use the cheap money to do so. Now it is mainly Germany (as in the Bundesbank) that is inflicting such severe austerity on Greece, because they want their money back .............. again!

Re: Rise of the Right
I have just been listening to a programme on Radio 4 that was following a family of (so called) refugees being taken to their accommodation outside of the camp that they were staying in. They had just been given around £1,400 for a family of 6 for a month, but I could not believe the face pulling and whingeing that they were doing because it was only one room and not a house, there were showers and bathrooms on another floor. It was obvious that they were expecting to be given everything on a plate, one of the women even said that she should have demanded a room of her own before leaving the camp. The interviewer even asked them what was the problem as now they were in a safe place and were housed, clothed and being fed and once granted a visa they could move elsewhere and make a new life, the whispered mutterings from the family said it all.

Re: Rise of the Right
If we're talking the RISE of the RIGHT one also only has to look to the rise of Donald TRUMP in the USA. Pretty large following and IMO it is a reaction to all the Politics that have been going on.
We got 38 refugees brought to the Island. Been gone for the last 4 days so have not heard how they're settling in is going BUT I'm also convinced that even if there were problems our Newspaper & News Media would NOT report it.

Re: Rise of the Right
Yes of course Trump is another example as is Le Penn in France and the BNP in the UK.

Re: Rise of the Right
I hope Frau Merkel is getting pangs of guilt if she sees the scenes from yesterday of many hundreds of immigrants trying to get from Greece into Macedonia via a backdoor route, wading through a cold river with children and no protection, only to be turned back to Greece by Macedonian authorities. She has so much to answer for and I am glad that the Right is showing its teeth in opposition.
It is very easy for individuals like you and me to be appalled by some of the scenes but feel helpless to do anything about it. The extreme Right is nothing to be proud of but at least they make the leading politicians sit up and take notice when there is a swing of support to those right wing policies.
If the message gets back to those trying to enter Europe that Europe has closed its borders, maybe the flow would cease. Ironically I heard that Macedonia imposed a fine of 500euros on those people who did cross illegally into Macedonia only to be turned back. I have great compassion for those who are genuinely trying to escape for their lives but the political leaders have dragged their feet in not nipping the problem in the bud when it was SO obvious how it would develop. They talk about it being the worst immigration problem since the end of WWII, so no lessons were learned then

Re: Rise of the Right
I agree Grandad, there was a graph being shown on TV this morning and it showed the most Euro sceptic and the most pro Euro membership areas of the country. Surprise, surprise, it was the most ethnically diverse area of London and other places dotted through the UK who would vote to stay in the EU. Another example of how the endemic populations will is being influenced by mass immigration who will of course want to retain this open border policy.

Re: Rise of the Right
Here in BC we're pretty LEFT for the most part. Am sure there is a RIGHT (and I'm not the only one) but am also sure many people are becoming more and more concerned and soon there will be a tipping point. Once critical mass is reached the reaction is apt to be more severe than if moderation was followed in the first place.
I firmly blame Politicians and the rise of the ridiculous PC culture that Politicians adopted where they say everything and nothing at the same time.
As for the rise of Donald Trump he has a HUGE following. The interesting thing is that riots caused by the LEFT are breaking out as they are now violently protesting what Trump is saying!!! Seems ridiculous that those who tout freedom of speech ONLY like it when it fits THEIR crazy agenda AND they're willing to resort to violence when they DO NOT LIKE what is being said! Anyway - Trump had to cancel a rally in Chicago (where Obama is from) because of violent protesting from the Left who was clashing with his supporters.
Today is also 2nd Super Tuesday and if Trump runs the board he WILL be the Nominee for President. The Republicans literally do not know whether to poop or go blind as they're losing control of their Party! They can't control Trump and have now taken to attacking him. Crazy to watch BUT if the Republicans (also called the GOP - Grand Old Party had their fingers on the pulse of what the people really want they wouldn't be in this position now).
Going to be fireworks in the USA IF Trump does get elected!! Tonight will tell.

Re: Rise of the Right
Sometimes you need a real radical to shake the system up, I am sure we would not be getting the future referendum on EU membership if it were not for the radical views of Nigel Farage and his UKIP party making the other parties running scared of the support they were getting in local elections.
