Safety - yours mine ours

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

In the light of recent world events and the horrific attack in Paris & the speed my own old bike was stolen I've been thinking more and more about safety and security. I know there is an inevitable "when your time is up" it is gonna be up but in the interim I'm a bit determined to keep MY life going for as long as I can.

In my own house I know there are locks on all the windows and given the design of the house (which slopes down towards the back) all the side windows would require a ladder to reach however the front windows are ground level as are the windows on the back deck.

I have dead bolts (1) on the exterior doors but that is about it. I also have lots of exterior lighting and basically try and keep everything locked up.

Anybody else doing anything special or specific to keep the bad guys out?

Any other security tips for household? Cars?

Is there anything you do now differently as you're getting on in years that you didn't do when you were younger?

I have 4 rottweilers  If a moth farts outside, I know about it. I have motion sensor lights all round the property, and with the boarding dogs, should anyone be close to the kennels, after hours, I have the added security that they will bark, which triggers my guys. Mine seem to understand a dog barking because it wants to go home, versus a dog barking because something is wrong.

If they pipe up at 3am, I grab a baseball bat and 2 of the 4 dogs and jog round the property. we nearly caught one, who got away over the fence, leaving his trousers in Taras mouth
Dont get your knickers in a knot. It solves nothing and just makes you walk funny

My old dog - a feisty terrier cross with a big bark used to trigger at 'sounds' and he seemed to be able to discriminate a squirrel running up a tree from somebody walking up the path. He was great as he was seldom wrong in his bark. Cause of his big or deep bark he sounded much bigger than he actually was ;) but he was also fearless too.

I've been looking for another one but haven't found anybody yet I want to bring home and live with.

I must say that Annie falls into the 'moth fart' bracket, the slightest noise outside and she will bark, not in an annoying way just very alert. I have an experession of my own when talking about her and it is "she has got ears like a ****-house rat"

I do believe a barking dog is a great deterrent. I'd think most robbers wouldn't want to press past a snarling barking dog.
