Chicken Soup

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

Tis that time of year again when the chill starts setting in that I start thinking of making hot soups. Chicken is one of the easiest soups to make and am sure almost everybody has their own favourite chicken soup recipe. I always start my own chicken soups by boiling up the bones in a salt/vinegar brine - lots of onions/carrots/celery and chunks of chicken as well as cumin/turmeric/garlic/red pepper and a few bay leaves thrown in.

Definitely delicious on a cold brrrrrrrrrr type day.

I've never heard of that fruit and nothing is coming to mind from your description. I know when I'm in Trinidad I enjoy fruit that nobody has ever heard of here but it is locally grown and delicious! ;) :)

You can hold one in your hand, put two and they get brown squash marks. The inside is pink like a melon but softer and dotted with seeds- I have a crate full in the kitchen and the whole house now smells of fruit !

Exactly! A fruit came to mine given Jayway's explanation & description but the actual name eluded me - but that could be guava. The juice IS delicious :)

I remember the hotel gardener in Aswan giving me fresh guavas straight from the tree. I miss that place so much!

They are still sat in the fridge - I just dont fancy them, picky about foreign fruit. Went to Greece, guy came along the beach selling fruit- he peeled it for me and muggins ate it - had a spike in my tongue for weeks - - - Expect these will end up for the hens . .

Speaking of juicing - does anybody "juice?" Grind down veggies into juice and drink it? I love juicing. Delicious!

I saw a demonstration once by a doctor that had two people eating Oranges, one could juice them and the other had to eat them in their natural state. The juicer consumed about 10 Oranges while the other person only managed to eat 3. The purpose of this demonstration was to show that the 'healthy' juicer was consuming about three times the calories as the other person, so no good for losing weight ;)

The mystery fruit was foul juiced, the rest went out the hens AND THEY WONT TOUCH IT ... hmmm Yes, LLL I juice veggies, usually with fruit too. I cant be fussed eating oranges, they all get juiced. As oranges have been found to contain pesticides right thro the skin I juice on an old fashioned machine, that you press halved fruit on . . .
