As we have been talking about blogs I thought I would 'blog' about my activities in the home over recent days.
We have been in our home since it was built in 1969 and over the years I have made changes to keep it up to date or to suit our style. The stairs are a case in point and these, which rise from the original lounge/diner, have morphed and I have just completed the latest transition. Here are four pictures (two old and poor quality) showing, 1) The sixties style staircase with a half landing which wasted a lot of space in the room. 2) Around the mid seventies I turned the lower flight and did away with the half landing to save some floor space. 3) I removed all the old white boards and installed spindle handrails but left the side of the lower flight open. 4) As we both felt that the open side could be a hazard I have just added a spindle handrail to the lower flight.
So that has kept me busy a few hours a day over recent days.
Really quite like your blog and the tale of a staircase and chairs!
I actually liked the more 'open' (3rd photo down) look BUT had anybody ever fallen am sure your Insurance company would have a conniption. Fashion a al Insurance design
That being said I do quite like how it looks now. Like the black leather chair too
Love his flared jeans, how old are the kids now? You really need the bannister, people are always tripping, nothing to do with age. Example = went to be an under secretary at the YMCA. 3rd floor of the warehouse. Staircase had no bannister, but a thick red rope in shiny brass holders, looked very nice. I tripped, near the top, with an armful of papers. Grabbed the rope, the shiny brass holders popped out one by one, I slid and skidded down to the 2nd floor landing ending up flat on my back. I had a nasty telling off from the big boss for ruining the wall
, no sympathy or sueing those days.-
Jay, they are now 49, 50 and 53 years old. Older than you and LLL
LLL, the chair is one of two from the much maligned Swedish home furnishers Ikea. They are the only Ikea items in our home but they are very comfotable bent wood rockers with foot stools.
Chair does look nice. I have a couple of Ikea things here too and the oldest daughter and her husband have 2 leather Ikea chairs in their livingroom. They love them.
I think here now if the rise is more than 2 feet or maybe 1 meter you MUST put up handrails. I think if it is 1 meter that is 3 steps so you must have a handrail for 3 steps inside or outside and I also think the hand rail must be at 42" height...........so MANY rules and so little knowledge!
To blog or not to blog, that is the question.
I enjoy taking photos and writing up my walks with Annie and various other things that take my interest while I am out and about, but it all takes time....
