Cruising Mexico

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

We made a few stops along the way in Mexico. ALL the stops were INTENSELY tourist and were the equivalent of being dropped off at the Luxor Souk. Nothing of culture was present but t-shirts could, for sure, be purchased 5 for $20USD! Probably the only different between the Mexican sellers and Arab sellers in Egypt is that the Mexicans were not as aggressive. I've learned from being in Mexico before that Mexican sellers only seem to be affronted when you walk past their shop without going in. IF you go in and buy nothing they're more than content with the fact that you have 'looked' cause 'maybe you might see and like' however there is no following you, throwing Mexican blankets on your shoulder and I've never been swore at or subjected to foul language if I don't buy. There actually isn't much pressure to buy. Am not saying that a price won't be artificially raised and there IS a haggle back and forth but not nearly to the extent there is in Egypt where you have to walk through a Souk with your eyes firmly and on the ground in front of you and Heaven Forbid if you furtively glance for so much as a nano second at some "made in china" object inside a sellers store. You'll be hounded to the ends of the Souk with demands of "how much you wanna pay" when, in fact, a purchase if the farthest thing from your mind.

A few photos of Mexico. The stops were wonderful scenery, beach relaxing offered but unless you were on a tour (I've been to most of the places offered), scuba diving or zip lining there was very little to do other than walk the shops and sit in a lounge chair by the beach.

Great photos once again LLL, I have Mexico on my bucket list as I am particularly interested in the Mayan civilisation and would like to visit their numerous pyramid & temple complexes.

If you're interested in Mayan culture (and it IS super interesting) you need to stay central in the Yucatan close into Cancun so as to be able to get to lots of the archeological sites and there is a very new museum just opened last year in Cancun that is phenomenal.

If you go to the resorts they're plentiful and restful but if you go to the tourist towns you can be overwhelmed with nothing but tourist fluff - silver, blankets, sombreros and enough t-shirts to clothe the world - and get no real sense of Mexico at all.
