Nice effect on the right image, not so sure about your background colour though
can you put another image full size behind the altered picture or are are you limited to adding a solid colour?

Among all the many different colours I thought this went best with the sepia.
I'm pretty sure I've only two options either Solid colour or Gradient for background, the gradient doesn't look so well with sepia.

No the problem with a gradient is you need to see it all, maybe its just me that sees the yellow as a bit too bright for the rest of the image.
