Just to add an example of my safety warning.

I took this from my balcony at the Steigenberger in April last year....I then had several days with a black area in my field of view and seriously thought I had damaged my eye. This was with a 200mm lens.



Bridge cameras are OK but DO be careful with DSLR's

Good point Grandad, looking directly at the sun through a camera viewfinder or binoculars can cause blindness.

Really? I never knew that and I WAS pointing and looking directly at the sun. Never had a thought that I could damage my sight doing this.........

Good photo Grandad. You have a much more circular sun and much more of an overall orange glow which gives a really warm feeling to the photo.

Had meeting today with colleagues from Aberdeen,so had to get ears attuned to the accent!No Doric though!
Love the photos.Good few years ago I coulda posted some of sky in area I live.The "red glow"of the steelworks in the industrial heartland of Scotland!Maybe not as picturesque...but stunning nonetheless!
Alas,it's no more...and how we all wish that the sky still had that glow!!

Very true, some of the old industrial landscapes were fantastic, I can remember a company that used to produce Town Gas from coal and to do that they would literally cook the coal in huge ovens. At the end of the process the cooked coal had now become white hot coke and this was pushed out of the ovens by huge rams and drenched in water to cool it down. Vast clouds of steam would rise over the lancsape that could rival any cloud in the sky, but at night the sky would burst into a fiery red glow even on the blackest of nights and it was aspectacular sight to see, alas like your own industry it has now long gone.

My father from Aberdeen Scotland and Ponte Pool Wales. My mother from Saltcoats & Glasgow. The accents are quite familiar to me. Interesting that 'some' of the relatives accents are gone, some are quite toned down but others are still in full swing!

Industrial landscapes would be quite neat. I can only imagine huge piles of coal being cooled with water and the steam clouds coming forth. Would make for really good photography!

Have worked in Glasgow hospitals though for 30 years...but still never lost the Lanarkshire accent!
Aberdonians,Highlanders,Lowlanders...all Jock Tamsen's bairns!!!
Special affinity...Gaels and Picts,my ain folk are MacPherson clan with sprinkling of Lithuanian immigrant!

Was out for a walk late afternoon and thought I'd take a photo of an 'early' evening sky from the Pacific Northwest.........



Today started with a typically overcast morning, somewhat foggy but the sun managed to come through and burn off the haze leaving a fairly clear blue sky with typical evergreen outlines.

Not an 'industrial' skyscape but the best I could do this afternoon and pretty typical of around here for me. Am real curious as to what everybody else sees as an evening sky in your part of this world?
