I know the Presidential elections in the USA are not going to be until Nov 2012 however the race to find a Republican to run has been going on for months. One of the pre-eminent business men here opted to try and run. He sure wasn't a politician but I believe a very brilliant man. Somehow his campaign ended up with nothing but continued allegations that he sexually harrassed women, had affairs etc. Today he just withdrew from the race.
I guess my point in this is that this man WAS a fresh breath blowing through the country but, as one commentator said, he didn't speak the "Political lingo" of Washington.
I find it sad that we have career politicians. I highly doubt this was what anybody had in mind years ago when this country or any country was founded. I'm not sure that families who make their lifes work politics are the BEST representatives we can find. I'm thinking I'd love to see regular, normal people take up politics. We might get back down to some basics in life.
Herman Cain just pulled out of the Presidency race

We have the same problem in the UK, career politicians who have never done anything else in their lives. The biggest problem is that regardless of political persuasion they all emanate from the same privileged backgrounds and the same universities. It has become more and more the preserve of the few who can afford to campaign and stand for these parliamentary seats, long gone are the days when a good local man or woman could get themselves elected. We have labour politicians who have more money, wealth and business connections that are generated by their political status than most businessmen have while earning an honest living. I have always found it to be a dichotomy that these people can purport to represent the working man when they have never had to work in a real job, or remotely suffer the tribulations of raising a family and keeping a roof over their heads on a working mans wages, to them it is just an easy way to earn a living and any political label will suffice to achieve their personal agendas and promote their own interests.
