Highway Driving

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

Highway Driving"

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his cell phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's urgent voice warning him, "Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful!”

"Hell!" said Herman, "It's not just one car. It's hundreds of ‘em!"

:D

I had a similar experience once. I was approaching a bridge following the signs to the cathedral. There was no traffic at all on the bridge, but traffic lights on the final approach. Just before the actual traffic lights there was a road sign slanting to the right, not the usual right angled one for a right turn, so at the lights I took the right hand lane and when the lights changed drove over the bridge.

On the crest of the bridge I saw a double line of cars rapidly approaching me. All I could do was stop with my hazard warning lights on until the traffic lights stopped the oncoming cars and I could nip over and safely complete my journey. I had my two girls in the back aged 10 and 11 years old who gave me a hard time. However when I got into the cathedral still shaking, I told the lady on the gift stand what had just happened. "Oh, your aren't the first to do that - somebody will come in here almost every day that has done the same thing. Thankfully no one has got hurt yet."

In my defence I was used to crossing the river in a nearby town which had two bridges close together - one had very high wall and you wouldn't know you were going over a bridge, the other was conventional each taking one direction of flow. I hadn't driven in the cathedral town before and was finding the signage extremely obtuse.
