The City of Dallas, Texas, passed an ordinance stating that
if a driver is pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to provide
proof of insurance , the car is towed .

To retrieve the car after being impounded,
they must show proof of insurance to have the car released.
This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.

Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed,
the Dallas impound lots began to fill up and were full after only nine days.

Over 80% of the impounded cars were driven by illegals .

Now, not only must they provide proof of insurance to have their car released,
they have to pay for the cost of the tow , a $350 fine , and $20 fo r every day their car is kept in the lot.

Guess what?

Accident rates have gone down 47%
and Dallas' solution gets uninsured drivers off the road
WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality.

Just brings tears to your eyes doesn't it? **

Same here. It is/was funny but in reality it is a very sad commentary on how WE are conducting business which isn't geared to help all of us.

I was watching a TV programme yesterday about policing the A1 road, which runs the length of the country and is a main arterial road.

In the programme it showed that the police have cameras which not only check the speed and number plate, but also check if the vehicle is insured. If not then the police on duty are informed and stop it.

We saw a 20 yr old woman who was trying to support a sick family member on her salary and she was in a low paid job. Her insurance became due and she couldn't afford to renew it, so continued to drive and hoped she would get away with it.

She had been directed into a layby, then was told her car would be impounded until after her court case. She could have lost her licence for a year, heavy fine, points on her licence when she got it back etc. In fact they gave a fine proportional to her income, so only a couple of hundred pounds, few months ban and 6 points on her licence............but she has to re-take her driving test when eligible and will be on an Insurance black list, which means if she can find a company to cover her, it will be about 4 times the premium that she was paying before.

Apparently they are putting more and more of these cameras around, I think it's brilliant because they film the car with proof of date and time and that it isn't insured on one screen .............. then automatically prompt arrest of the driver. Love it.
Smile! It confuses people

Here I have to purchase an insurance that insures me against people who are Under insured.

Here we have the option to just buy basic insurance which provides minimal coverage and is usually purchased by those buying cars worth less than nothing. Course these are the cars that typically tend to fall apart too and are usually driven by drivers who push them to the max. I rather resent having to purchase insurance incase I'm hit by one of these as their insurance is not sufficient to cover my costs.
