On our smallholding the foxes took over a huge old rabbit warren. They were very tame and never took any of our poultry up near the house. Our 200metre boundary was right on the edge of a 2 metre deep ditch so I put a new fence inside about 2 metres from the real boundary. This was untouched by human hand.
The Foxes had a place about 50 metres from the warren which they used to Dress the food they were bringing for the cubs. I could always tell what was on the menu! Usually it was pigeons, some ducks from the crayfish beds opposite, no rabbits unless they took them straight home but all feathered victims were de feathered at this spot. Of course we were over run with short tailed voles in those days which the foxes along with the stoats, weasels, owls and kestrels also enjoyed.

Father Fox used to sleep in the middle of a clump of nettles during the day. He often just lifted his head in acknowledgement before snuggling back down as I went about my work on the fields. those were the days...……………. I had a big dog stoat walking about 4 feet behind me along the river edge one day. He stopped when I did and walked on when I did until he got to the big old Willow tree whe he disappeared.

MD, I often wonder how foxes deal with their prey. My son in law shoots rabbits with permission, on two sites, one a golf course. I often put a rabbit or two out for the foxes but I have been known to skin them first to help with the feed

Mink were a problem for me. If they could get into the hen/duck houses at night they created havoc. I always knew when mink were responsible because of the half buried the carcase that looked as if the victim had dived into the soil, tail feet and tips of wings sticking up above ground. Of course the river bank was very soft and easy to dig so was a favourite place.

:tk There's no rivers in Ibiza. There is a dry river bed which very rarely has any water in it these days, yet the there is plenty of water underground. So no tickling trout for me when I move.

:up I have mentioned that my trail cam had a fault and I disposed of it. Looking around on Amazon last evening and a 'Lightning Deal' for a trail cam flashed up, £29. It said 9 minutes remaining to order so I clicked the button and right now my new cam is about half a mile away on the delivery van. So I might get to follow a new family of foxes.
On a totally unrelated subject, I had the laser treatment on my eyes this morning. Completely painless and the only inconvenience is the drops they put in the eyes to CLOSE the retina (opposite to the dilation when they do retinal photography.) As the retina is closed down you end up living in a gloom until the effect wears off in several hours.
The actual procedure involved firing a low energy laser at the back of the eye, 20 or 30 times in each eye. It now remains to see if my pressures within the eyes reduce significantly such that I can reduce the 3 times a day drops in both eyes.
Something else totally unrelated, I sowed the tomato seeds more than 3 weeks ago and left the tray in my workshop. As nothing happened I brought the tray indoors and the seeds have now germinated and are showing seedlings about 2cm's tall. The instructions say plant up when 4 to 6 cm's tall so at least things are beginning to happen. :up

Just be careful that your seedlings don't bolt and go spindly, still keep them warm (or the stems will go a blue colour) and ideally in a sunny position.

@Grandad - I find all the Doctors do more than interesting. Wouldn't like the few hours of gloom but definitely worth it to get medical answers.

Am myself heading out with the daughter to do some Thrift shopping. Not that I'm looking for anything special but ya never know and then we'll stop for lunch. Went to "The Saigon Restaurant" run by a Vietnamese family who moved here late 1970ies. My favourite is "Pho Ga" which is rice noodles, bean sprouts, chicken breast in chicken broth. I love dropping all the fresh mint leaves in when it arrives - fragrance and taste! Today will probably be a Sushi lunch day........not to think on tomorrow. See no reason to break a dining out streak! ;)

How can I stop that H? They are pretty spindley at the moment...

The trail cam arrived and it does look good although not yet tested. It has a small 2.4" screen and a comprehensive menu for a whole range of settings. It even comes with a wall mounting bracket.
It is made by Victor, the same as my little sport cam. Its ref is Victor HC200.
Hopefully I shall get something to share before too long. It has a 6volt transformer socket so I won't be spending a fortune on batteries....

Try to keep them in an even light, window cills often get light from one side and the plants get drawn towards the light.

Trail cam sounds good. Love to see the foxes and you do get great photos of them.

Today I've been making bowl cozies. Almost like a hot pad 'cept these are folded up so you can set a bowl into them which means you don't burn your fingers when you bring a hot bowl out of the microwave. Been meaning to make these for a while now as I've needed one. Daughters family will get a few for Easter. Another prezzie done ;)

On Monday afternoon my daughter asked me if it was possible to fly out to Ibiza on Wednesday from Bristol rather than next Monday from London city airport which involves a long journey by road. It was a struggle but I arrived here this evening.

I fell asleep on the bed in my travelling clothes until about 3.00am when I tried to open my case to change my clothes and found it wasn't my suitcase.

I had to have a wheelchair in the airport so was the last person to pick up my cases. The two porters asked me my name several times. The suitcase I bought in a hurry on Monday and I didn't have time to put ribbons on it.

My poor daughter is rushed off her feet at the moment and I expect her home late tomorrow afternoon. Obviously the Chinese owner of this case, which is locked by the way, took mine in error. That's only the second time that has happened to me in all my years of traveling.

I shall ring my friend Mark and ask if he can take me to the airport ........... if the Oriental person does return my case. Egyptair delivered mine to my home in Luxor - I don't expect that from Ryanair for my £24 ticket. ;)

£24 a ticket? Fantastic value! Sorry about the suitcase though. Hope your weather is better than ours at the moment. We seem to have a return to Winter with hailstones, freezing rain and even some snow!

@MD - a ticket for 24?? WOW! Our guys would charge us that much just for looking at a plane! Do definitely hope you can find your luggage though. I lost a suitcase once en route to Trinidad. No idea where it went but several nights later around midnight a man driving a car pulled up and whistled outside the gate for about an hour until somebody got up machete in hand to go outside to see what he wanted. Guess he was told to deliver it but delivering to a house there in the middle of the night can almost be a suicide mission. Was happy to finally get my own 'western' clothes though. Am not really suited to sari's and dupatas.

Today I'm off to a group I'm a member of. Guest speaker is an Earthquake expert. I believe he might be in charge or reporting earthquakes in this area. Promises to be an interesting topic. Afternoon Pottery comes next.

At last I have internet on my computer as well as my kindle - so much more comfortable.

As with these things by the time we paid for the seat of choice and extra small bag for hand luggage and all the other things that are standard with most airlines it was just over £100 but still a very good bargain. The taxi to the airport - Bristol - was £75 .

The alternative was to go via London on Monday with BA for about £175 plus travel to London and overnight at a tiny hotel near the airport, then taxi at stupid o'clock in the morning so it was well worth the effort.

My daughter ran hither and thither but got my bag safely back. Today we are off to the bank to get a copy of my bank account, then to another town to get it endorsed then back to the first town to submit it and hope all goes well. Obviously if I had come on the later plane there wouldn't have been enough time to get everything done before next Tuesday. I know the Siesta thing is a bit of a drag but to be fair to the Police section of the residence application, allowing people who had an appointment after 29th March but before whatever of April which is me to continue with their application unhindered. Whew! :up

Right now life seems to revolve around medical appointments. ;)
My wife has an eye appointment this morning and her injection in her right eye will be her 53rd.
I have an appointment on Monday for a cortisone injection in my right shoulder for a long standing torn ligament problem.
Then two weeks today I will have an injection in my left eye which will be my 12th, still a long way behind my wife.
Two weeks Wednesday I have an angiogram appointment when I hope they will insert a stent or stents to improve the oxygen flow to my heart.
SO, that's about as exciting as life is at present except for our enjoyable trip up north last weekend. :up

My new trail cam is not proving to be as good quality as my action cam made by the same manufacturer. We have a pair of visiting foxes and as the vixen is looking a bit lean, I assume that they have cubs hidden away nearby. This is them feasting on chicken scraps and dog food last evening.

I have just returned from a scooter trip to Sainsburys Local to stock up on dog food. Got to look after those cubs. ;)

Grandad my brother David has had bother with his eye sight for a while now, after seeing the optician and others in the hospital they have told him he needs an operation on both eyes. it's the lenses behind the eye's that needs the op.
He waited a while but the NHS was taking too long so he decided to go private, he has appointments now later this month at Glasgow, one eye each day, third day checkups then home.
The only reason he went private was for his reading, he is the type every spare minute he has a book in his hands or on the computer doing his family tree oh & his gardening , David without these would be living nightmare. It's costing him a small fortune but, I'm sure it will be worth it.

@Kiya
Hope it all goes well for David, Kiya. You have mentioned him so much in connection with holidays and his book that I feel we all know him. Those eye operations sound a bit scary to me but ophthalmic surgery has moved on so much that all will be well I'm confident.
My mother had glaucoma (that's where I get it from) and long before she died she had the lenses removed from her eyes. Nothing to do with the glaucoma but it meant she then has glasses with very thick lenses. Sounds frightening but there are many conditions of the eyes that in the past would lead to blindness but can now be dealt with.
My wife has just returned from her appointment. Her wet AMD eye is stable and her next injection will again be in 6 weeks. Not too many years ago and she may well have been blind by now.
I know I am waffling on but I just want to give you confidence that David will be fine and hopefully back to all his reading and computer stuff.
Send him our best wishes....

I think medicine has advanced remarkably over the years and I'm always amazed at what they can do using such small tiny intricate instruments.

@Grandad - am wondering what kind of stent they'll use? When I was at the Dentist office I was reading a magazine that was talking re: stents and they're essentially inserted and inflated. The article was talking the newest type that was a spiral that was inserted into the clogged area, twisted and then pulled back through the clot which essentially cut it up. On paper it sure made 100% sense to me as a "what a great idea." Wonder too how many stents they'll insert? IMO the more the better so everything is open and free flowing.

Photos of the foxes are good and the foxes themselves are looking good to me too.
