My daughter brought me a nice artisan hand made lamp back from Morocco, I will be hanging it outside under my new pergola when I actually get it, but for now it will stay in the conservatory. I decided against putting a naked flame inside for illumination and instead opted to buy a string of tiny LED lights attached to very thin copper wires with a small battery pack that I could put inside. I was not sure how well this would actually work as I scrunched it up into a wire ball inside the lamp body, but it looks quite good. I have a remote control with the lights so its just a case of pressing a button to light it up.
Here it is lit up, it does not throw much in the way of illumination but looks very nice as a feature.

Re: Moroccan Lamp
Yes it is a lot better than a naked flame, plus it should stay lit a lot longer I also bought a set for my daughters lamp and she is really pleased with the effect

Re: Moroccan Lamp
I've been thinking about your lamp and it would be more than wonderful if it could somehow be made to go solar. I love solar lights and this would look fantastic outside in a garden.

Re: Moroccan Lamp
LLL, I could easily enough make the lamp solar powered as I could modify a standard 50 LED string by feeding the cable out of the top of the lamp to a remote solar panel. The problem is it would look a bit unsightly and require dismantling during the Winter months, in addition the solar would not work too well here during the shorter days. This way it will be battery powered, so everything is self contained within the lamp and it should give at least 100 hours of constant use per set of batteries before requiring a new set. As I mentioned earlier the lamp is of a hand made artisan quality and although it looks very nice I doubt if it would take the rigours of being permanently outside during the average UK Summer and Winter.
