What I've been doing lately is getting ME as the lead for my street as BlockWatch Coordinator. I've done the application, criminal record check, resume handed in got the Badge and I've now been out and up and down the street collecting names etc. so that we can form a neighbourhood blockwatch. None of us have had major crimes committed against us but rather we're getting pilfered. Small items are being taken and more and more street type people are becoming brazen and walking up to houses and homes and simply lifting anything not nailed down. Has been an interesting day of meeting everybody living on this street. Once I get 75% signed up we'll have a major meeting with RCMP so they can advise what all has been happening and what all they want us to do.

Thanks Kiya. The figure is of Christ and was restored to its position over the gateway in recent years. This link has many postcards and historical notes about the gateway which is not SO old, only 500 years last year. Just 6 of my lifetimes which puts it in perspective ;)
Pass holders like me enter by the small gate to the left of the main gate.

Thanks Grandad....interesting history in that link, the gate does look better with the turrets re-

built, and glad to read in that link that another like me think the blue Christ doesn't look right

compared to the structure all around it.

I've entered a very busy stage at the moment. I have three quilts tops to get sandwiched and quilted, the put the binding on and done! I finished quilting one today so just got to trim and bind. BTW, I'm still picking tomatoes! I think they are coming to an end now though. :)

Glad you mentioned tomatoes RS. We had been picking them as they ripened then last Thursday I stripped all that were left, ripening or not, and disposed of the vines in the bin collection. They are ripening quite rapidly in a bowl in the kitchen and we only have a few left. It has been good to eat our own fruit though, new experience for me ;) :up

I decided to shred a bag of documents that my daughter had asked me to do when she was staying here.
I thought it wouldn't take me long - I had brought my small shredder with me but daughter had a big heavy job so starting by using hers. But I had trouble getting it to start, then found the teeth were jammed up with paper. After an hour I had managed to free it and off I went …………….. but it didn't want to take more than 2 pages and suddenly jammed again!

Therefore I spent about 4 hours or more shredding paper on the small machine and unblocking the cutter on the big machine. I do not want to touch that big machine ever again. :x

To add insult to injury I hoped to get the two sacks of shredded paper out for the bin men who usually come about 5.00pm Today they came early morning and several houses missed them/ It was blowing a gale this morning so some of us don't put out early as the bags blow all over the street. No problem but I really don't want 3 bags of recycling in the kitchen for the week.

However having said all that I have a sense of achievement for getting the job done, everything cleared up and I won't have to do it again for a while. :up

I have been getting my caravan ready for a long weekend away with my son, looking at the weather we will spend it sitting inside watching the rain. :(

My daughter brought me back a nice hanging lamp from Morrocco, it is supposed to take a tea light inside, but I have decided to put some of those warm LED lights inside that you can scrunch up and put in a jar or a bottle to illuminate them. The ones I have ordered have a self contained battery pack and a remote control, so I am hoping to conceal everything inside the lantern and hopefully they will light up the coloured glass, watch this space ;)

I had to smile the other day, they had taken their youngest (my middle grandson) with them and he is typical of todays youth, air headed and mainly interested in his mobile. He is a good lad, but you could not trust him to feed the dog if you were away and he would probably lose his house key or leave the cooker on. Whilst theywere on holiday my SIL (his dad) sents me several pictures of interesting things, but one made me chuckle out loud, it was a picture of my grandson looking rather smug and posing on a camel for his mates when he got back home. ;) Underneath the photo his dad had added 'Laurence of Incompetance'

I had remembered you telling us that you had an upcoming trip Horus. Are you going back to north Wales? And are you meeting up again with the folks from Sheppey in Kent. Something else I remember you saying that you planned. Wherever you go take care and don't park the van anywhere near the top of cliffs. I believe there will be some wind this weekend (and that is not from the curry and draught ale ;) )

No just me and my son Grandad, a bit of a lad & dad weekend (with Annie of course) we had planned to do a bit of walking, nothing serious just the local area. We are off to Wales (Betws-y-Coed) again as the site is very handy for the village and easy access to a nice stroll along the river, I will not be meeting up with my friends this time, but maybe early next year now. Isn't it sodding typical that we had red hot weather while the kids were off school then as soon as us 'old uns' want to get away for a bit of peace and quiet it persists down :urm: Anyway hopefully there will be a few gaps in this deluge we are having (yes, yes I know it is lovely down in Kent :vs )  and we can maybe get out a little. I have made plenty of prepared food such as Liver & Onions, and all the veg. just needs a zap in the ding box and chicken curry, popadums, mango chutney, Naan bread and pilau rice, a couple of Irish steaks plus lots of other tinned stuff that I take in a box as a back up if ever needed.

There is a nice pub in the village where you can get food, but unfortunately they do not allow dogs inside, so its only good for having a meal and a drink outside when the weathers nice. There are a couple of others that do food and will allow doggies in the bar :up plus a nice chippy in the village, but of course we are talking Wales here so anything is liable to be closed at short notice or over the weekend  No doubt we can fill in the evenings with some DVD's and a few beers ;) and just natter about all and everything. It does get dark quite early now so we will need to find something to fill the evenings up as bad weather does limit you in these sort of places, but hey ho it could be worse it may be raining in Kent. :D

We have a family gathering at a pub on a beach on Sunday H and I have a suspicion that the weather will not be good down here by then. Hope they have room inside. I believe the weather will have improved in north Wales, I hope so, have an enjoyable time with your son :up

Today I was awake at 5am with a burning headache. Was awake and moving by 9am but with a blanket and bucket "just in case" and finally drew the curtains to darken down the room and headed back to bed where I slept 'til afternoon. I think it was a migraine. Feeling ok-ish now but not 100%. Will be better tomorrow. I used to get really bad migraines but it has been years and years since getting one. Hope they're not starting up again.

Missed pottery and was hoping to have been able to start a back of glazing today but guess it'll all have to wait 'til next week.
