PS. Do you like the 'bokeh' of our berry tree decoration......we don't do Christmas trees any more.

@Grandad - I like your photo - what is it? You put lights on a berry tree and then did a bokeh effect?

It IS quite impressive and does look more than nice

LLL, it is just an alternative to a traditional Christmas tree. First there was the phase of the fibre optic tree, we have one of those in the loft but no longer fashionable. Pretty naff actually.

The berry tree is a simulated bare tree with small coloured globes attached along the branches. You plug into a power outlet and The globes change colour and are quite attractive in a minimalist sort of way. I looked at it this morning and thought I could probably bokeh it and exclude any detail of the branches. Glad you like my effort. ;) :up

I did like the effect and it was worth the effort.

I hadn't heard of these type of trees but they sound easy ;) and that is sometimes where I think I need to head - to EASY ways of doing things.

My tree is like an umbrella. You flip it up and the branches fold down. Top section clicks into the bottom section and you're good to go. The twins love decorating it and I now only have and use plastic ornaments shaped in balls/stars/pine cones/birds of different colours. They have a blast and it does go up and come down fast.

I think we have all taken a break from picture taking for a while LLL. I am sure a nice bright spring will re kindle our wish to record all that is good around us. :up

I have ordered the new toy. I did not intend to spend hundreds on something that would only get limited use. I budgetted £100 and the best deal on Amazon within that budget will arrive from China in a couple of weeks. I will keep you informed. ;)

Always been a bit tempted with the possibilities of a trail camera Grandad, but I doubt if much visits my own garden other than the odd cat and maybe a Hedgehog, so it would get little use and the thought of tying it to a tree for someone else to come along and nick is a no-no ;)

Nothing, still got it, but you cannot fly them in any sort of wind as they are very lighweight. I was hoping to get some good pictures of some local features such as a church, but had to wait until the crop in a nearby filed was harvested. Then the weather turned grotty and I never had a chance, had it snowed I may have managed some nice shots, but so far no real joy.

I saw a short news clip on TV of a guy back east - Nova Scotia - using a drone equipped with a camera to take photos of all the historic lighthouses there. Having the drone helps him get photos of lots of interesting perspectives as the light houses are typically built very close to the water and sometimes on headlands so you can't really get shots of them from the water and/or up high. Can see where a drone would be useful for this.

That is where they would be really useful, but as I have mentioned before, they do need to be quite powerful to counter the side winds.

They have become a very successful 'eye in the sky' for such things as wildlife photography, agricultural and archaeological surveillance. The big professional jobs must be flown by licensed pilots.

If you can open them have a look at some of these:

Believe it or not Grandad you are considered to be the 'pilot' and subjected to aviation rules even for the small ones.
