This is the Albufeira Centro Saude, where I get to visit. The clever engineers piped the river . idiots . and this is the result, water was rushing down to the town, its a real mess. I live on higher ground so the water runs away. The beach is full of debris, the shops were flooded a metre high . . . .

ONE METER - that is pretty substantial. The damage is going to be pretty significant.

What are the building there made out of? Are they mostly stone? Or are they newer material like here that just dissolves when it gets wet?

Good to know you're on high ground. I am too - IF I ever get flooded the city and COUNTRY will have LOTS bigger problems than my house being under water! ;)

Old town is the same as my house, rocks and straw and sand, plastered and done with limewash. The newer houses in lower Albufeira are just normal bricks and cement and of course they made UNDERGROUND car parks , not too bright here, the authorities only see the sunshine . . . . .

Making underground parking lots probably, in hindsight, wasn't a good decision.

Are the waters receding? Or are they still running high? Any loss of life?

ONLY one man died when his car was washed into a ditch. The minister visited Albufeira and told the shop keepers about the value of good insurance . . . jeez. It is a real mess downtown, will take months to clean up and its still raining.

HERE if we have what is termed a natural disaster our Home Owners Insurance doesn't cover it :( :( Just another way they have you coming and going.

I have no idea anymore what constitutes a bona fide claim as there are so many exclusions - yet you have to pay through the nose to keep your insurance up.
