Patterns in Nature
Must admit that I've been hoping for some time now to get the 'perfect' shot of a spider web - perfectly strung webbing, morning mist and dew glinting off the threads making them shine and be the focal piont of the picture.
As I was walking through the park I noticed a small clearing and there between two trees was a great big spider web and sitting IN the very middle was a great big spider. tried to get a photo of the web with the spider but I was pointing the camera right into the sun. It also would not focus on the fine lines of the web.
I crashed through the trees so that the sun was at my back and when I finally got into a position so I could get the web and spider the spider was gone. Zoomed off up one of the lines of the web.
This was the best I could get but not good enough to quell my 'need' to get a really good early morning dewy misty spider web photo.
I used the automatic 'correction' feature to enhance this photo as it was fairly dark and the web looked pretty blah.
While spiders are definitely not one of my favourite beasties I'm bound, bent and determined to get a photo of a web. That spiders are able to create these beautiful pattern'd webs is fascinating too.
Anybody else have any 'nature' photos they're trying to capture?

Re: Patterns in Nature
Beautiful patterns these critters make but like you I wouldn't go near one if I saw a spider on the other hand if it was empty I'd give it a shot.

Re: Patterns in Nature
Birds in flight is my personal challenge LLL. I had a lot of fun last year snapping the birds on the bird feeders but as the squirrels emptied them so quickly I made cages to fit around them so pictures are not so nice now.
This is a recent picture of a Marsh Harrier hovering over it's prey that I got on my last visit to the local RSPB reserve. It was some distance away so my trusty 200mm was needed to get as close as possible.

Re: Patterns in Nature
Actually H I didn't use GIMP (thought about it and looked at the site BUT I'm so useless I don't know how to load a photo INTO GIMP to be able to use it). Actually I used the 'auto correct' program of Microsoft Office Picture Manager cause all I have to do is right click on the photo and then click auto correct.
You'll have to start lesson 1 in GIMP with 'how to get a photo' into the program (I'm going to be the S L O W student and hope I don't hold back everybody else)
Great shot Grandad. Really is. You got the bird with full feathers spread and wings in perfect alignment. TERRIFIC!! I love all of your bird photos and hope to get some of my own going once I get my gardens and bird feeders etc set up in my new place.
We haven't had a frost here yet and I need to scout out spider webs (might even go back to where I saw this web) and try and capture one full of dew drops. Next time I'll be taking my regular camera as it does produce a superior photo.

Don't worry about being slow, everyone goes at their own pace.
The intention is not to become an expert, just to be able to use it on our photo's
