Egypt has both Christian and Moslem communities and the politics of the Middle East are equally diverse. Air your views on the situation.

Arctic Muslims

Post by Ebikatsu »

Something just struck me yesterday.

Muslims can't live in the Arctic or Antarctic :?

Why cos they'd have to fast 24 hours a day for a whole month?

Wasn't there some kind of official ruling about this - that they were allowed to adopt the times of another country?

Can't remember but I know I've had similar discussions on this topic years ago - just can't remember the outcome!

I asked this exact question on the blue side on the clock changes thread. I had wondered if they would use a "country of convenience" for their timing.
No one wanted to volunteer an answer though :(

I just went and rechecked:

If this should happen, or you are in a country where the days or nights are prolonged, you can either pick the times of sunrise and sunset of another Islamic Nation, or ideally the times according to Mecca.

Yes but if you want to be pedantic

You would then be following the thoughts of men and not the words of the Quran .
and that would be okay if it were not in the Quran but it is. ;)
