Re: Sociologist: MB Most Dangerous Group of Islamists in Egy
Watching that video is very disconcerting, but at least some people seem to be aware of what the possible implications are for Egypt, but whether they can now do anything to stop this slide towards an Islamic state totally controlled by the MB is another thing. Many like myself could see this coming even at the very beginning of the revolution it was clear that the MB were playing a very crafty game of staying in the background so as to not give SCAF any justification for clamping down on them. As soon as they were sure that the people had gained the upper hand then they came out of the shadows and with their well oiled political machine already in place they could easily fill the vacuum which is exactly what they have done. It is a little unfair to make the comparison with Nazi Germany, but this is exactly the way that the Nazi party came to power by having a very good organisation already in place at a time when the population was disgruntled and tired of the privations they were living under at the time, it is easy to draw a parallel with Egypt under Mubarak. Only time will tell, but I predict that after one more election that Egypt’s fate will be sealed and it will be well on its way to becoming another Saudi or Iran type state. However at the moment, but possibly just for only a couple of years at best, there is still the chance for the more moderate and politically aware elements within Egypt to counter this slide towards an Islamic state, but they will need to act quickly before they are in full control of all aspects of government and cannot be challenged. The problem of course will be that the majority of voters are poor and uneducated and will go along with anyone who offers them change, they will have very little understanding of the long term implications to themselves and Egypt in general, it may well be a case of “it was better the devil you knew, than the devil you don’t”
