Egypt presidential runoff results as they come in

Egypt has both Christian and Moslem communities and the politics of the Middle East are equally diverse. Air your views on the situation.

This morning, now that Morsi has been declared the 'winner' there are quite a few TV clips showing cheering in Tahrir Square and chants or "Morsi, Morsi." Seems the US is 'happy' with this outcome and seems the military Generals are also 'ok' with this outcome. Will be interesting to see how life in Egypt develops from this point on.

Was a VERY close election and a 'country divided' is an apt descriptor.

Seems Morsi was elected via democratic process. Will be interesting to see how many 'new' political groups are allowed to develop in the coming years. Two party system? Three? Four? OR will this democratic process become a party of one?

It all depends upon how fanatical the MB party actually is, my own view is that they will start off being pretty laid back and just keeping their noses clean. As soon as the army feel happy enough with them to hand over full control and the electorate see them as no real threat and maybe see a few improvements from what is after all a fairly low base line for most Egyptians, will see them being elected again probably with a much larger majority. Then I think the second term will see them flexing their muscles a lot more, lets face it they have survived in the shadows quite well for over 30 years so a few more softly softly years will not make a lot of difference to their ultimate aims. 8)
