Freeview v Subscription TV

Post by Grandad »

I am very loyal to our BBC and do regard them as the best broadcaster in the world. Independent channels do have some excellent programs but the Ad breaks can be annoying. I know I can, and do, record and fast forward through the Ads BUT! Of late we are finding less and less of interest to us; add to that the high level of repeat programs and TV was getting limited and boring.
We have never had any subscription TV but our new'ish smart TV is ultra HD compatible so yesterday I signed on for Netflix. One month free trial initially but as many of their offerings are in Ultra HD I am sure I will stay with it.
The Crown seems to be popular at present so we will start by watching that. I do like sport but not really enough to subscribe to Sky Sports, maybe later. What subscription TV do you other guys watch??

IMO you'll love Netflix. That is all I watch in the evenings now. I typically will find a Series to watch and each evening will watch two to three episodes and essentially binge on it until finished. Then I'll search for another series or go to watching a movie. Netflix gives you an option to create your own list of what you want to watch which helps to always have a few titles lined up and ready to go.

@Kiya - I just finished watching "Dirty John" too and definitely NOT the ending I was expecting. Didn't like the second to last or third to last episode either where they did the recap of all previous episodes. That, to me, was almost like a filler episode cause they had to make 8 and had nothing else to show.

We are now into the first series of 'The Crown' on Netflix in our months free trial.
Really enjoying it and watching an episode when nothing on the main channels appeals to us.
As it is such a long series, the writers have been able to write the story in more detail which adds to the interest and enjoyment. I have no doubt that I shall continue with a subscription after the trial period ends. :up
Also there are programs in Ultra HD 4K which optimise picture quality. :up

@Grandad - I think you will really enjoy watching Netflix. I watch it almost exclusively in the evenings and quite enjoy watching TV Series or other Series as sometimes I will watch 2 episodes per night maybe even 3 if it really appeals and I find watching this way give me much more continuity vs waiting to watch 1 episode per week and then sometimes missing one. The movie selection is good too.
