January 2016 Wildlife Challenge
January 2016 HAS arrived Took this out my back living room window. What is unique is that there are actually TWO hummers sitting on the feeder at the same time. They always buzz each other and try to scare the other one away and mostly there is only ever 1 feeding at a time.

Re: January 2016 Wildlife Challenge
OH shock ! ! !Thankyou Horus. Glory and I were on a track by the motorway. She stopped dead and refused to move. Then I heard a squeak from the bank, I could only see plastic bags and cans people had thrown from their cars. I dismounted, climbed up the bank, and found 2 dead and one alive - delightful- she was covered with muck with septic eyes. So put her in my saddlebag and raised her in the house (with motorbike gloves) with syringe milk and soup. She was meeting my cats for the first time outside on the table, they didnt think much of her and ran off. This is her, up the almond tree, not spitty now and a grand hunter. Jok. This was the third time Glory found abandoned animals. When she found 11 large puppies hiding up a pipe I had to call for help. (they wouldnt fit in the saddlebag)

Yes - she turned out excellent. I've read that often feral cats don't ever really domesticate and remain kinda spitty and scratchy. This one looks lovely

Re: January 2016 Wildlife Challenge
Such a grey day there is not much colour through the glass of the back door but one squirrel braved the drizzle to try my new sweetcorn feeder.
Nothing more exciting at the moment, hope to catch a badger when the new toy arrives in a week or two. It is on a Very Slow Boat from China.

The squirrel photo is good. Kinda like my hummers through the livingroom window I'm thinking things will pick up soon (once I get rid of this cold and "I" pick up!)

Re: January 2016 Wildlife Challenge
They 'morphed' into nest boxes Jay. Seriously, I preferred to hang bird nest boxes on the tree and used part of them for the back of the boxes because they were quick release. Have cleaned my 4 bird boxes ready for the new season and hope to get better results than last year, which was zilchJayway wrote:What happened to the little wooden diners you made, Grandad ?

They would if they could get in Jay. That is why the holes must not be larger than 32mm which will accommodate up to great tits and chaffinch.Jayway wrote:Do squirrels eat the eggs ??? Or snakes ?

Re: January 2016 Wildlife Challenge
Just come back from a stroll with Annie along an old abandoned railway line that has been turned into a conservation walk. They have been fixing wooden nestboxes for small birds such as Tits in the trees along the path, so far I have counted 33

That is quite a few - nest boxes that is. I'm hoping to get some bird houses put up around here to attract more birds. I'm not walking out anywhere - SNOW again

Robbo, please get your rotties to look the other way. This would be supper for one I think
This is 'Mouse' a 12 week old Chihuahua that her owner Charli, next door, has just brought back with her after the Christmas break at Uni. She really is the cutest little dog and I think we will be volunteering to baby sit.

I agree on the cuteness Grandad, but beware the pink accoutrements it will do your image absolutely no good whatsoever.

Re: January 2016 Wildlife Challenge
yeah - quite agree Robbo - mostly just drawing the comparison cause both dogs are black (but resemblance ends after that)
I honestly believe that most people nowadays almost believe their dog = child (given the outfits and get ups they put their dog into)
