I know over the years I have posted a lot about my home city Canterbury but I thought I would give a 'heads up' for a program on TV this evening.
Channel 4 at 8pm, Britains Most Historic Towns, will focus mainly on the time of The Plantagenets, 12th to 15th centuries but I am sure there will be current pictures around the city. Just thought it might be of interest or something to record for when you are short of something to watch.

Sadly I missed about 10 minutes, but got the gist of it all I think. You certainly live in a lovely interesting city Grandad and I noticed quite a few of the places from your previous posts. Those cathedral windows are really spectacular and to think how long they have survived is remarkable, Alice Roberts is a lovely presenter and her inquisitiveness is great to see. They say you learn something new every day and I did, when the lady was reading from Geofrey Chaucer and she explained that at the time there was no such thing as silent letters in speech, so 'knight' would be pronounced as "ker-ni-ghe-tuh" I love how our language has evolved to a point that we could barely understand the spoken word of that era.

I never realized that either that there was a time when every letter had to be pronounced. Again learn something new all the time …….. interesting.

Re: Canterbury, My home city on TV
I managed to find it on ITVCatchup, very interesting & nice to see the aerial shots over Canterbury & the cathedral.
Amazing to see original stained glass windows from centuries ago, I would have loved to seen the original tomb of Becket's, by the way they described it it sounded huge & a site to behold.
I had to laugh at the presenter trying the old bagpipes.
Like Horus I recognised some parts with your photos Grandad

Re: Canterbury, My home city on TV
We watched this last evening and I must say they presented my home city very well. Apart from the historical facts, I thought the camera direction was very good with emphasis on architectural features and many low angle shots. All good stuff.
I did know that the Canterbury copy of Magna Carta was badly damaged but I was not aware that the Cathedral library has a copy.
So happy that my city was well presented, it is full of history to explore.
