I love this book which I rediscovered recently while sorting out. I've never read it all the way through I must admit, but, side tracked by unlikely titles and first lines of recipes I have enjoyed it muchly.
Ms Isitt's family found a damaged little brown book while attic cleaning which was entitled:
THE QUEEN'S CLOSET OPENED
Incomparable secrets in physic, chyrurgary,
preserving and candying &c...
Printed for Nathaniel Broook
at the Angell in Cornhill. 1655
I'm trying to find the recipe which starts "Take a lusty youth with arms well washed...….." but can't find it so far.
Surely not a Mrs Beeton?
