Seems the news has been released that Prince died of an opiod (fentanyl) overdose. Weighed 112 pounds at passing albeit he was only 5'3". Theory is that all the live performances caused hip problems which lead to pain killers which led to overuse and abuse.

I was never a direct fan but I did enjoy some of his music however I can recognize he was an extremely talented musician and performer. So sad he passed so young.

I'm always amazed that so many of our really good performers never retire and have that strong need to showcase their art even to their own detriment. The drive that makes them tick must be phenomenal. Always kinda think if it is the need to share their music or perform or what it is that makes them continue on even when in pain.

Personally, unfortunately or not, I have it written on my medical charts that I'm "non-compliant" with pain medications in that I really do not like to take them at all. I don't want to be in screaming pain either and I will manage pain but I want it done at the lowest common denominator always. I've had doctor write me prescriptions for huge amounts of pain medication. This past surgery I was written (and it got filled) for 100 pretty heavy duty pain pills. I took Tylenol (or maybe ibuprofen) and was totally fine. My hip hurts so I'm for acupuncture vs medication.

I suppose on the other hand I could have been in extreme pain and needed pain killers - such a fine line but IMO so easy to get addicted and become dependent and the kicker is you always seem to need more and more and more to cure the pain.

Do you handle pain well and how? (Special tips or hints?)

Spine =acupuncturist. Broken bones, torn tendons, achilles - sofa, bottle and very little food for a while seems to work for me. Paracetomol when it all gets too much, but it does make my ears ring, much the same as booze -   Tips and Hints. What you have done in the past will come back to haunt you.
