Not wishing to steal Horus's thunder - here's 3 early photos of Hatshepsut's temple.
Dated 1895
Undated, but possibly much earlier - note the upper level, where only the granite entrance is standing.
THis stereogram is dated 1905 - restoration is well under way.

Several of the things you mention are already done in the prison service in the UK - the prisoners cook the meals (under supervision), the prison farms worked by prisoners, make the prison service virtually self-sufficient in vegetables, and provide much of the meat used. The problem with the ...

The early photographers had excellent lenses, and the glass plate negatives had no real problem with resolution -probably equivalent to many more megapixels than a modern digital camera. The clarity of some of the early photos often amazes me.

But bread, wheat and fuel are subsidised heavily here in Egypt - or do you mean greater subsidies?
And as for Tunisia:-
"Not even the continuing presence of tanks and tear gas could prevent Tunisia's British spin doctors from trying to sell the nation as an ideal holiday destination today. The ...

I have to disagree - Carter was certainly a grafter - it took him 10 years or so to record and remove everything from the tomb, after virtually completely excavating much of the Valley. Most of the other excavators, with the possible exception of Petrie, were treasure hunters and general looters ...

Life does mean life, Horus-but not necessarily life in an institution.
The problem is that there is only one penalty for murder at the moment, which is the life sentence. However, the vast majority of murders are not in the same class as the Sutcliffe's of this world, who will never leave ...

Yes - you are missing something. Firstly they are not scurvied Somalians in little boats. The boats are controlled now by 'mother ships' so they operate from Madagascar to the south, and way out into the Indian ocean - a vast area of water.
Arming merchant fleets would not be the answer either ...

I agree - there is really no second hand car market here. When I first let it be known that I wanted a car, I was offered a 10 year old Toyota Corolla for 50,000LE and when I had stopped laughing, the owner said "Well, I paid over 100,000 for it, so it's a fair price"!

I have to disagree with Ebi - after driving in the UK for many years, and taking a defensive driving course with the company I worked for, I find that driving here is relatively simple, and that by mentally looking ahead, and physically using my eyesight, I can anticipate most of the things that ...

Well, it's been going for more than a week - I really like Hepzi's conversions, but I think in the end, I have to say that I think Grandad's drug runners appeals to me the most. So I'll call him the winner this time and ask him to put a picture up.
