I know that many programs have been done of this famous battle but this particular one caught my eye. It's peppered with battle scenes shown using computer game animation - quite cute and gives, for me anyway, a fresh look at battles ancient style.
Its not long, about 21 mins:

Old films of Tutankhamun's tomb
After listening to what his trumpet may have sounded like it was interesting to see this archive footage of activities around the kings tomb. I'd seen bits and pieces of old film footage many times in TV documentaries but it was nice to see several minutes of it all together. Always funny to see the...

Horus is really just a catch all name for the many different forms of Horus's throughout Egypt. Horus the elder at Kom Ombo and Edfu (Horus of Mesen) for example is the deity associated with the King and kingship. He's the chappie who can be seen wearing the pshent or double crown of Egypt. He's in ...

Surely aged before beauty ;) National Geographic have some images here Amazing that there's the possibility that this original face may have been made from a cast taken of the queens actual face. I think that also perhaps the sculptor would have needed to 'rough up'' the original limestone core in p...

That division is something that the holiday advertisers give me the impression of also. Just last week there was a ad campaign targeting ''see egypt'' but the whole package was only for Sharm. Not so much as ''see egypt'' but ''sea egypt''. Not my cup of tea at all. Even when I first went to egypt i...

I know absolutely nothing about musical instruments but I was quite taken with the sound from this trumpet. A little heraldic type of tune that made me think of the festivals and the entertainers, dancers etc with the procession of the king and a god. Might be interesting to track down some trumpets...

Listen to Tutankhamuns trumpet
Just stumbled upon this and thought how cool it would have been to blow in the actual trumpet buried with Tutankhamun. A recording was made by the BBC in 1939 of the silver trumpet being played by a young bandsman. One story has it that the trumpet was destroyed as it was played while it appears tha...

Thats very cool. If they hurry they could have a modern version in stores for Christmas. Actually it would be wonderful to be able to smell the same smells that would have been used by the royals and in the temples. It reminds me of the divine birth scenes where the scent of the god is mentioned as ...

:) Its so often bitter and sweet - pressure put on the monuments balanced with the thrilling experience of visiting these places. Always a tricky balancing act. Given time there could be a KFC/Pizza Hut there too as at Giza ;) This kind of ties into a couple of Google alerts I just read on the openi...

:) The bull/human mummy is intriguing. I've seen mummies made up of different objects such a sticks etc but sacred Apis bones is quite different. These are some of the things found with this mummy. The mask is pretty crude but the jewelery and little items are quite nice: Black and white shot of the...

:) I think the idea of Mariette discovering his tomb came from the mummy he discovered in a burial chamber (k) in the Serapeum - after using gunpowder to dislodge a stone block. The mummy had been provided with a gold mask and some other items bearing the name of Prince Khaemwaset. Weird thing was t...

:) How amazing that it was found so close to the surface. What a surprise for the workers! I still do at times see Menkaure named Mycerinus in various media, which is a bit of a shame. Reminds me of getting used to towns actually having several name changes over their very long history - takes a bit...
