All very worrying
I just can't imagine what it must be like in this area now. The effects of the earthquake and Tsunami were bad enough but now this. It is all very worrying. But I do wonder about the risk they took building these power stations knowing Japan's earthquake vulnerability. Did you hear about the text sc...

Another one had bread
I saw one with bread shoved in the side of his 'helmet'. You know the aish fino, the long thin ones like baguette. These are actually quite soft so unless it was stale I'm not sure what it was there for. Unless it was his emergency food rations!

Tahrir
It's pronounced tahrir anyway and it means liberation. How it's written in English letters depends who's writing it!!!

True
The problem is that there are so many more 'have nots' than 'haves' in Egypyt and even those that had are struggling today! Things are getting very nasty in Egypt now with the tweo side in violent clashes.

As expected
As I said before Mubarek's speech was a clever one. Designed to divide opinion, I can see it with my own Egyptian friends many who were happy that he had said he would go! So is it back to divide and rule and a regime of fear? I really hope not.

Jewel
Well Jewel you and I must visit different parts of Egypt. Oh yeah I stay in the suburbs of Cairo with my relatives and see how their lives have changed and how they are struggling to make ends meet. Yes tourism has developed and there are fancy villas and hotel complexes in the tourist areas but tha...

Here we go
You know Jewel what you are saying is very like what Egyptian State TV is saying. 'You need us to protect us from ....' 30 years in power and all I can see is Egypt in decline and people suffering. All Egyptians are worried about the unknown but that does n't mean we accept the unacceptable indefini...

I heard that too
I heard that too but you hear a lot of things right now. I have access to Egyptian State TV through my satellite. They probably started that rumour along with everything else they keep churning out to 'reassure' people. It makes interseting watching if you can stand the endless patritic songs!!!! Al...

I was very proud
I don't think it was a sad day at all. I was impressed by the behaviour of some individuals who were prepared to stand up to the police. Did you see the video footage of the guys standing in front of the water cannon vehicles and getting on top? When we all know the reality of police repression in E...

Attack on Church
I would say that the attack on the Church in Alex which shocked all Egyptians is what is bringing both groups together in solidarity. The events in Tunisia may now have added to the awareness of their shared difficulties.

Tense Times
You are right Glyph the tragic events in Alex did have a unifying effect but how long will this last? But all Egyptians are affected by the current economic and political problems, rising prices being the most obvious. Maybe people are starting to speak out but the people I know in Cairo are still v...

Seems a lot to me
Yeah in a country where the majority believe that God in in control and only God can decide when one lives or dies, I think that this is a very high number of suicides. For me this indicates real desperation and despair.

Watching with interest
I have also been following the events in Tunisia closely though not on the BBC. I turned on the news just after the President had fled and there was one sentence about this and the rest was all about the lack of council houses in the UK. Some news reports never even mention it. I've been using the W...

Holy Week is about to start! What does this mean for Copts?
For those of you who are open minded and interested in religion and the cultural implications of this, there will be lots going on in the Coptic Churches of Egypt (and the Coptic churches overseas) starting tomorrow! Friday is celebrated as the last day of Holy Lent and the service in Church also in...

No exactly
But they still surrounded the Church while people were inside it. It seems to have been another case when public feeling was whipped up out of control by an irate preacher. Here is a link to one news report I have read. It refers to problems with a Church Community Centre and attacks on Christian pr...
